Metal Stain Prevention

It is one thing to remove unsightly brown and yellow metal stains from your pool. It is quite another thing to keep them from returning. You can find products that will prevent stains from returning at your online and local pool stores. These products are called Sequesterants or Chelators. Chelators are usually liquids that quickly bind themselves to copper or iron ions, deactivating them so they can no longer form stains. Sequestrants are usually in a powder form, and may offer some stain removal benefits as well.

Metal stains are not something you should have to test for too often, but if you're baffled at what's causing your stains, you may want both a Copper Test Kit and an Iron Test Kit. Sequestrants and ascorbic acid usually work best on iron.
