Borates
Did you know that you can improve your pool water by adding lots of borax or borates? Getting your Borate levels up to 50ppm has many benefits:- Crystal Clear, Diamond-Like WaterThe right level of borates in your water will make your water look even more clear and beautiful than you thought it could be.
- Feels soft and silky on the skinA pool with 40-50PPM of borates will feel soft and silky on the skin, lessening the need and desire to jump in the shower to rinse off immediately after swimming.
- Helps Control AlgaeBorates are proven to help control algae
- Help Maintain Proper PH and Free Chlorine LevelsBorate levels of 40-50PPM actually help stabilize and save money on chemicals, especially chlorine.
How to Add Borates
Borates can be added to your water simply by adding combined boxes of Borax with muriatic acid to counter the rise in PH and Total Alkalinity. My own, 10,000 gallon pool required about 6 boxes of Borax and 3.5 gallons of muriatic acid in order to bring the Borate levels up to 50ppm. Of course, you will need a good Borate Test Kit to know when you have the right amount.

Pool Closing Time in Colorado
It's October 2nd and I've left the pool open as long as reasonably possible here in Colorado with our cool, cool nights. We got down into the mid 30-s last night, though my pool water is still in the upper 70's. I actually used the heater a little bit this week and I'm proud to say that I went swimming as late as Sept. 29th. This is never a happy time for us swimming pool lovers, but it's important that we close our pools properly so we enjoy them next summer. Things to keep in mind.
See the Closing Pool Video Demonstration for more details.
